Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy utilizes essential oils can be used to shift moods, relieve pain, facilitate healing of cuts and burns, and improve nutrition.  They can be used alone or as an adjunct to Healing Touch to deepen that experience.

Essential oils have been used since Biblical times and as early as 7000 B.C. for medicinal, ceremonial and aesthetic purposes. Essential oils have been used extensively in Europe since the early 1900s and have only become popular in the United States since the 1980s.

Examples of two commonly used essential oils are:

  1. Lavender for relaxation and sleep enhancement
  2. Peppermint for irritable bowel syndrome or to relieve nausea and vomiting after surgery or chemotherapy
